Category: nasurtium seed

Revised Content:

Nasturtium (Tropaeolum nanum Tom Thumb Black Velvet) - Brilliant, mahogany brown colored 2-inch blooms shine out from mounding green foliage, creating a beautiful display when grown from seeds. These mounding Black Velvet Nasturtiums only grow 12-16 inches tall.

Hummingbirds are frequent visitors to these beautiful plants. Nasturtiums thrive in full sun, especially in cooler climates, though in the hottest regions, afternoon shade is preferable. While Tropaeolum plants will grow as annuals in any location, they can only survive as perennials in frost-free zones.

Caring for Nasturtiums is straightforward - no fertilizer is required, and a regular watering schedule that allows the soil to dry out between irrigations is recommended. To sow the seeds, soak them in warm water overnight, then plant them 1/2 inch deep in well-worked, weed-free soil, using 1-2 seeds per plant.

The Nasturtium, or Tropaeolum majus, is native to South America and Central America, from Mexico to Chile. Early English herbalists referred to them as "Indian Cress" after the conquistadors discovered them in the jungles of Peru and Mexico and brought them back to Spain in the 16th century.

Outsidepride Seed Source, LLC, a family-owned business, remains committed to providing a wide range of high-quality seeds, including Clovers, Cover Crops, Deer Food, Flowers, Herbs, Ornamentals, and Ground Cover for Lawns and Pastures.
